Fixed gear all the way unless you are taking the thing off road or live where there are huge hills.
get the gearing sorted on a nice steel fixed gear and you'll never go back to shocks, gears, all that heavy stuff.

20 miles with two guys on single speeds, one a olympic slalom hard boot boarder. farkin A! I'm done for the day.

I hear ya material... I didn't do 20 mi on a fixed speed, but I did do 17 mi mostly street on a mtn bike and it was about 100°F+, but there was a slight breezed that helped quite a bit. I seriously think I lost about 8 lbs of water weight...
