emily the strange is a cosmic debris character. it's primarily a US thing, but the "creators" have built a multi-million dollar company around what has apparently been stolen from someone else. clothing, books, comics, and a feature-length film by Hellboy producer Mike Richardson in 2010.
no, not relevant at all.

I see the similarity - and think that all art is derivative. there is quite a departure in artistic style and execution though. I think it's neat that they took a side character and made her into something a little more fleshed out.
- i think what is most damning though is that the very first thing they produced was practically photocopied thoughacescence

I always saw Emily the Strange clothing in every skate shop around here, and wondered what it was about. I finally decided it was just a popular character and company (instead of researching it online, strangely enough). I used to read Nate the Great. Interesting observation in that article.

All artistic inspiration comes from something already in existence. Family Guy looks a lot like The Simpsons, don't it?
- no. Plus this seems more like claiming work that is modified from something else and claiming it as originallocustsloth
