I'm still waiting for ONE MEANINGFUL THING to come out of Obama's mother fucking office. Sad for all of us that he's a fucking FAILURE after his first 167 days.

Battleaxe:... you can ask that question for about the last 8-9 presidents ? got any at all...
Sure Battleaxe, looking back 8-9 Presidents, I'm CERTAIN that SOME good was done, unlike Obama who is showing that he's in WAY OVER HIS HEAD.

Of course the CIA, FBI and the GOP lied to congress! We do not need you to admit now, thanks for you late apology. - Love Nancy Pelosi

Anyways...
Interesting talk by Lee Smolin, an American theoretical physicist, on the relationship between scientific and political theory.

Jeb Bush slams Obama
This is coming out of the trap of a right-wing, neoconservative fascist and the dumber brother of the worst President in U.S. history!
- As long as the Republicans remain delusional about the reason of their unpopularity, they will wander in the wilderness.TheBlueOne
- Jeb would probably have been a far better President than his brother. This isn't really a 'slam' though...IRNlun6

I wonder will conservatism ever become cool? All signs point to Obama and the Dems maintaining power at the moment, even if things get worse they will have to get A LOT worse to compensate for the dismal approval ratings of the Republican party. But on the other hand even if Obama gets reelected as is likely, you have to figure people will get sick of him at some point after 8 years.
Will young voters say, ever embrace conservatism the way they embraced liberalism partly as a reaction against Bush?
- TheBlueOne0
Sure they will, ukit. Never count out any party or viewpoint in politics. Especially when it looks like they're down and out. Lots can happen and the Republicans are definitely good at exploiting issues. However, what Jeb Bush said in the article utopian linked above is basically the problem, "I don't think there's any seismic shift. The Democrats have won on tactics." That's a fundamental misread of what just happened. Sure the democrats did get their organizational ship in order for once this time around, and made better use of technology...but it was effective because that technology suited the demographic that is growing, and will continue to grow. The Republicans are in meltdown and have no political philosophical answer to apply to working government right now to address the biggest issues facing the nation. Until they own up to that and reinvent themselves they'll be in the wilderness. If they continue to think it's simply a tactical problem, they're not reading the landscape right.
- polls show most independants are swinging away from Obama policies. could mean a shift toward repubs at elections

- well, I think it's far to early to read a trend yet...I'd say take a look around January '10TheBlueOne
- But I was an Obama voting Independent and I'm not too happy...not too upset either..but I expected more.TheBlueOne

Yeah - not tactical at all. It has to do with the youth vote going 70-30 Dem and the Latino vote going 70-30 Dem (not to mention blacks going 90-10 Dem, that one might be a lost cause). Latinos, Blacks and Asians will grow as a percentage of the population so that makes it harder and harder for Rs to win.
That why I wonder if the younger generation could start to swing conservative, because typically Republicans win on the strength of older white people, but that may not be possible anymore.

TBO, I don't agree entirely. I think both parties are going through a political change of character. We're a more intelligent and communicative culture with more invested in politics than previous generations. As a result, the wavering political atmosphere we see today is a result of the same large grouping of voters that got Obama elected AND showed up in force for McCain paying closer attention to politics. That same group or selection of groups is fed up with politics as usual. It could mean the demise of many incumbents come elections. Reid is notably one of them. Pelosi I'm sure is very worried, and possibly why her office remains quiet since the CIA mess she made for herself. As for Repubs, keeping close to their base is what keeps them in office. It's a matter of time now. I don't see the Republican party or the Democrats holding sway right now (60 votes aside). Obama holds the key to many of their political futures, but even his numbers continue to drop.
I think the "owning up"portion of your statement is more what you'd like to see than what is likely true.
- You make some good points, but I utterly disagree with: "We're a more intelligent and communicative culture with more invested in politics than previous generations."TheBlueOne
- more invested in politics than previous generations."TheBlueOne
- I still see it as a demographic shift, and one that reflects issues that the Democrats generally favor.TheBlueOne
- But I agree with you that all things in politics are tenuous.TheBlueOne

But see when I look at conservatives I don't see a movement that would be appealing to most independent or middle of the road people. I see a bunch of foaming at the GetRefresh types who don't offer any solutions and don't even know what the hell they are complaining about.
This Bill Maher monologue pretty much sums it up for me. Dems are no saints, but Rs = not acceptable.

I think the biggest problem with the Republican Party is that it never follows it own ideals. They preach smaller government, they preach less government intrusion, they preach fiscal responsibility but in the past 30yrs they have been anything but. So ultimately I think the ideals are sound, they've just been overrun with overly emotional, overly religious ideologues who preach vague concepts of what their party stands for but ultimately would never follow.
I think these ideals are still very popular in this country and if they can once again mis-represent themselves as following what their party stands for then we will see a swing towards their camp.
I'm kind of bitter on both parties. I think Dems took it this time not only because of Bush's massive unpopularity but also because Obama is such a charismatic figure.
- Well, the Dems never follow their own ideals either. If they did, there wouldn't be a debate about public healthcare right now.TheBlueOne
- They would just do it. But they won't. They'll fuck it up. Again.TheBlueOne
- Yup, totally agree.IRNlun6
