Personally I like bikes with a frame that is slightly small for me. If you ride technical trials, you will appreciate the ability to move it more easily.

looking forward to tonight's ride

yeah my pref is always a smaller frame.
but not too bothered about all the weight bollox. Tbh a heavier bike will give you more momentum if your cruising/on tarmac.

rafalski, I'm 6'1" and I ride a 19" which I was widely advised as the 'ideal' frame size. I could have gone to a 17" for a more agile ride but maybe I would have felt a little squashed up on longer trails. Also, diff gemoetry can mean one 19" is diff from another 19"; if the seatpost is at a slacker angle for example.

i was just riding on the west side bike path and some people were having a memorial service and putting up another one of those white bikes.

I have 3 bikes.
A k2 mountain bike which is decent but not great. was looking to upgrade to a specialized hardrock but that kind of faded.
beach cruiser complete with the basket on front for bringing home the 6-packs and easy rides to the pier.
and a BMX cruiser my buddy gave me which I still haven't got a chance to ride yet.
i've been looking into trying out a fixed-gear bike. i had no idea what they were until a few months ago when I saw some dude balancing on one at a stoplight in downtown, but after doing some research it looks pretty cool.

You looking for a city mountain bike, rafalski? My last bike was a Ridgeback Velocity which was around about your price range - nice, light thing for nipping around the city.

'city mountain bike'
thankfully that's not the bicycle equivalent of oiking a Range Rover around North London..

Thanks, everyone! Nairn, I'm afraid the 'city mountain bike' is a little too city if I want to conquer Wicklow Mountains :)
This is what I got from a dude who needed quick cash before migrating to Australia:
Hardly used, the tires still have some of those 'whiskers' or whatever they're called.
It's more than I need to learn what I like in a bike. I have to admit it's my first mtb and today I took the longest ride in more than 5 years. It feels good..

- horton0
yeah and some mt. washington/ 2006 bearclaw event in there too.
the "big air event" footy is total kamloops.. looks like Romo. be interesting to see how they stage that in Paris... ?
